250m Long-Range & 8-Wire PoE Technology
Overcome the standard 100-meter (328 ft) Ethernet distance barrier without sacrificing power stability or video clarity. Uniview switches integrate hardware-level long-range data transmission alongside full 8-wire PoE power delivery, giving you clean data flow and reliable voltage to high-demand IP surveillance cameras across perimeters, parking lots, and large commercial facilities.
250m Long-Distance Transmission
Standard IEEE 802.3 Ethernet limits network cable runs to 100 meters (328 feet). In large-scale surveillance projects, exceeding this distance traditionally requires expensive fiber runs, PoE extenders, or intermediate power taps.
When Extend Mode is enabled, the switch extends data and PoE power transmission up to 250 meters (820 feet) over standard network cabling. The port auto-negotiates to a stable 10Mbps full-duplex rate—providing bandwidth well above the 4Mbps to 8Mbps required for high-definition 4K H.265 / Ultra 265 video streams without dropped packets or frame jitter.

8-Wire PoE Mode (Mode A + Mode B)
Traditional PoE switches deliver power across only two twisted pairs (4 wires), using either Alternative A (pins 1, 2, 3, 6) or Alternative B (pins 4, 5, 7, 8). Over long distances, line resistance in a 4-wire delivery system causes severe voltage drop, increased heat accumulation, and potential camera power cycling.
Uniview's 8-Wire PoE architecture energizes all four twisted pairs simultaneously (pins 1, 2, 3, 6 and 4, 5, 7, 8). By distributing current across all eight conductors, electrical resistance and line loss are cut in half. This ensures stable operating voltage reaches the camera—even at the maximum 250m distance—while keeping cable temperatures cooler and prolonging hardware lifespan.

High-Power Output & Intelligent Priority
High-performance security cameras—such as PTZ domes, multi-sensor cameras, and units with high-power IR illuminators or built-in heaters—require significantly more starting and operating wattage than standard fixed lenses.
The switch provides up to 45W high-output PoE on Port 1, while Ports 2 through 8 deliver up to 30W PoE+ per port under a 120W total budget. With Hardware Port Priority, packets from Port 1 are prioritized through the switching fabric during heavy network traffic, and its power allocation is guarded first if total power consumption approaches capacity.

Installation & Cabling Best Practices
To achieve the full 250m transmission distance and optimal 8-wire PoE efficiency, always install 100% solid bare copper Cat5e or Cat6 network cabling. Copper-clad aluminum (CCA) cabling has significantly higher internal resistance and is not recommended for extended PoE runs. Extend mode can be toggled per port directly via the switch web GUI or cloud mobile app.
