There are a few bits of information that can help troubleshooting NVRs with built-in PoE switches:
- The integrated PoE switch is managed by the NVR; IP addresses are assigned to any attached IP cameras by the NVR.
- Any attached network IP cameras cannot be accessed using a web browser or configured using the camera’s Web Service. All configurations must be done through the NVR.
- When a camera is first added to the integrated switch, the NVR remembers the camera’s channel position based on MAC address. This means that no matter what port on the switch the camera is attached, the NVR will remember the channel it belongs to thereby restricting any rearranging of channels.
- Up-to-date 6.16 firmware allows for IPC firmware updates and configuration through the network video recorder.
- If a firmware flash or direct setting configuration needs to be done to the camera(s) attached to the integrated PoE switch on older firmware, follow these steps:
- Move all the cameras down a port on the switch. If all ports are used, remove the camera in Port 1.
- Using a Windows PC and an Ethernet cable, attach the PC directly to Port 1 on the switch.
- By default, the NVR assigns the cameras IP addresses on the 10.0.0.1 segment. The PC’s network adapter must be set to this segment. Navigate to Network and Sharing Center, click the “Change adapter settings” link and then right click the Ethernet adapter. Select Properties on the menu and then click the Properties button. Double click Internet Protocol Version 4 in the menu.
- In the Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties menu, select “Use the following IP address:” and enter in the following information:
- IP address: 10.0.0.2
- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
- Default gateway: 10.0.0.1
- Preferred DNS server: 10.0.0.1
- Alternative DNS server: 10.0.0.2
